Frequently Asked Questions

Find the answers to our most commonly asked questions below.

We’ve tried to include answers to our most frequently asked questions but if you don’t find the answer you need, please do contact us. You can email communications@childrenontheedge.org or call 01243 538530

Can you support my project?

Children on the Edge have a strongly relational approach in all that we do, so we do not form working partnerships with organisations on a cold contact basis, however worthy or honourable the cause.

We form all our local partnerships by doing our own research and through our current networks.

Do you give grants?

We do not offer grants, but work in relationship with local people, supporting them to achieve their aims.

Can I donate toys, clothes or other materials?

We frequently have offers from generous individuals and groups who wish to donate materials, but sadly we cannot accept these. Despite the costs saved by having items donated, the price and environmental impact of sending these gifts out to where we work is prohibitive.

We have found over the years that it is generally more effective for us to focus on raising much needed funds for the projects we support, where our partners are best placed to both identify what materials they need and to source them locally. This also means that we are investing in local economies where possible.

But we so appreciate building fundraising relationships with individuals, schools or other groups who want to resource our work. Do get in touch with our fundraising team at fundraising@childrenontheedge.org if you are interested in helping raise vital funds for Children on the Edge or see how you can get involved.

Can I volunteer on one of your projects?

All of our volunteer opportunities are based in the UK. Have a look at our Jobs & Volunteering Page to see what kind of opportunities are currently available.

We do not run volunteer programmes on our projects overseas, as we work with local partners who have the best knowledge and skill to implement all activities.

Historically, an exception to this has been our facilitation of annual play scheme trips, where a small number of dedicated fundraisers from The Body Shop At Home have travelled out with us to various programmes to help for a week. These volunteers have all been long term supporters of our work, both before and after the play schemes they assisted with, and these trips represent a small part of our strong connection and history with The Body Shop.

How do I join the Herat Online School?

Children on the Edge partner with Afghanistan Education Action and offer support, but we do not have any involvement in the day-to-day running of the school, including admissions. If you wish to find out more about joining the school or for any enquiries related to the Herat Online School and Afghanistan Education Action, please see their website, or contact them directly at info@afghanistaneducationaction.org

How can I work for Children on the Edge?

Please do keep an eye on our jobs and volunteering page to see if there are any current vacancies. We recommend that you sign up for our email updates, or follow us on social media to be the first to hear when we are recruiting.

Do you accept interns or work experience placements?

Unfortunately, as a small charity, we do not have the resources to support internships or work experience. Please do keep an eye on our jobs and volunteering page, sign up for our email updates, or follow us on social media to keep in touch with any volunteering opportunities that come up.

Can you help with my student research project?

Currently, articulating our strategies, research and approach isn’t something we can facilitate beyond what is available on our website and annual reports online.

For any charity, being able to spend significant time to help provide research for student learning can be difficult and for us, we are a small team that has to prioritise our time in delivering our programmes and ensuring fundraising support to our donors, events and volunteers.

How do I pay in my fundraising?

There are several ways you can pay in your fundraising. Please visit our Fundraising pages for all the details, or speak to a member of our fundraising team by emailing: fundraising@childrenontheedge.org or calling 01243 538530.
