Protecting Children

We work with communities, living in some of the most challenging environments, to protect children and help keep them safe.

Maombi, Kyaka II Refugee Settlement - Uganda

In the toughest situations, we help to build protection into children’s surroundings - at home, in the classroom and in their wider communities.

Children living in refugee camps, war zones and marginalised neighbourhoods are at risk of immediate harm, along with the long term effects of surviving in dangerous environments. By actively involving the entire community, we create safe spaces full of hope, life, colour and fun.

We support families through parenting groups and community workshops. Training ensures that local people are trained to build networks, tackle local issues, campaign for change and create safer communities for their children in a sustainable way.

We resource communities to get involved in the running of learning spaces, so they can take ownership of their children’s education. Our classrooms are safe places where children are cared for by trusted adults, have access to basic healthcare and are taught to stay safe from trafficking, early marriage and abuse.

All children deserve to grow up in a safe place, protected from harm.

SAFER COMMUNITIES

We train teams of volunteers in Uganda so they can advocate for and protect children living in their communities. These forums ensure local people are connected with essential services and resourced with the knowledge and tools to keep children safe from harm.

BUILDING FINANCIAL RESILIENCE

We help local groups collaborate to ensure stable family incomes, allowing them to support their children's daily needs and create safer home environments. We do this through developing community saving initiatives, providing business training and offering small loans to help grow sustainable enterprises.

CHILD FORUMS

Child forums in India, Bangladesh and Uganda support children to learn about their rights, express themselves, become leaders in local areas and bring about the changes they want to see. They are trained to be actively involved in helping keep themselves and their friends safe in their communities.

Meet Joyce

Joyce is from a slum community outside Jinja, Uganda. She has three children and her grain drink business was not making enough to look after them, pay the rent or send them to school.

After advice from her Child Protection Team she applied for a small business loan.

She was supported to make a business plan, write an application and learn about saving and managing finances.

She now has a successful business cooking and selling fish, and can afford to send her children to school.

You can support more women like Joyce to build stable incomes for their families.
