BBC Radio 4 Appeal

From Sunday 12th until Sunday 19th October 2025, our BBC Radio 4 Appeal is live. Tune in to our broadcasts on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday 12th at 07:54 and 21:25, and Thursday 16th October at 15.27 to hear actress, Susannah Fielding present our Appeal

Rohingya refugee children living in Kutupalong - the world's largest refugee camp - are forced to learn in a language they barely understand. With an 80% illiteracy rate in the camp, an entire generation is at risk of growing up without the skills they need for the future.

Children on the Edge has introduced a revolutionary initiative allowing children to finally learn in their own language, using a script called 'Hanifi.' Within just one school term, children are grasping basic reading and writing.

Your donation to our BBC Radio 4 Appeal can help to provide this life-changing education, paving the way for a brighter future. Just £30 can pay for a child to have a whole term of lessons in a language they understand.

Matched Funding

A generous charitable trust will match the first £25,000 in donations to the appeal. So your donation will go twice as far and have double the impact.

For Every £1 You Give

Our small but dedicated team ensure that:

87p

supports the children and communities we work with

13p

helps to raise the next £1

You can make a difference. As a small charity with a big reach we are grateful for every penny we receive, and are committed to spending your donation where the need is greatest.

How we spend your money

As a small charity with a big reach we are grateful for every penny we receive, and are committed to spending your donation where the need is greatest. We rely entirely on donations from our amazing community of supporters to fund our vital work to educate and protect over 15,500 children around the world.

On average, for every pound spent by Children on the Edge, 87p goes directly to the children and communities we support. The rest covers our fundraising costs to bring in a sustainable, steady stream of income to keep our projects running smoothly, along with all our UK office overheads.

In the UK office, we have 4 full time and 9 part time members of staff. To help reduce costs, we utilise volunteers wherever we can.

We also have two office dogs, Lola and Zuma. They're great for morale but not so good with typing. They are unpaid.

MONTHLY GIVING

Our regular donors ensure that we can continue to support marginalised children living on the edge, as we have been doing for over 35 years.

Regular, reliable income allows us to plan ahead and budget effectively so we can support more marginalised children around the world.

It means we can focus on doing what we do best, as well as respond to emergencies as they arise.

Watch Carla share why she gives monthly to Children on the Edge.
