Children on the Edge was sparked into being in 1990 by Anita Roddick, who mobilised her company, The Body Shop to co-found Children on the Edge. 

Our willingness to embrace risk, to move quickly, to be agile are testaments to the entrepreneurial spirit of both the late and our CEO, Rachel Bentley OBE. 

It’s a vision we share with our partners, finding effective solutions for children forced to flee their homes, living in warzones, or in poverty.

Why partner with Children on the Edge?

Where children are forced to flee their homes, surviving in warzones, or living in poverty - we work to protect children and provide education. 

Over thirty five years of experience, working in exceptionally challenging circumstances, has taught us to be agile in our approach, to listen, and to help design programmes according to specific needs by working hand-in-hand with local communities. 

Most importantly, we know that no one size fits all. We tailor solutions based on the specific needs of each specific situation – and we stay as long as it takes, until the community feels empowered and equipped to go it alone. 

OUR IMPACT

EDUCATION

Every child has the right to an education, but children who are living in refugee camps, slums or active warzones, often have no way to access learning. We work to ensure that children have access to high quality education, in bright, colourful classrooms, with lessons taught in their own language, by trained and trusted teachers.

PROTECTION

All children deserve to grow up in a safe place, protected from harm. In the toughest situations, we help to build protection into children’s surroundings - at home, in the classroom and in their wider communities. We support families through parenting groups and community workshops – so they can tackle local issues, campaign for change and create safer communities for their children in a sustainable way.
