Children on the Edge was sparked into being in 1990 by the late Dame Anita Roddick, who mobilised her company, The Body Shop, to co-found the organisation. 

Our willingness to embrace risk, move quickly, and remain agile are all testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of both Anita and our CEO, Rachel Bentley OBE. 

It’s an approach we share with our partners, as we find innovative solutions for children forced to flee their homes, living in conflict, or facing poverty and exploitation.

Why partner with Children on the Edge?

Where children are forced to flee their homes, surviving in warzones, or living in poverty - we support local communities to provide vital education and protection.

Over 35 years of experience in exceptionally challenging circumstances has taught us to be agile and to listen. Rather than adopting a 'cookie cutter' approach we co-design programmes according to specific needs by working hand-in-hand with local partners. 

We stay as long as it takes, until the community feels equipped to go it alone. We are always working to do ourselves out of a job, and we'd love you to help.

EDUCATION

We ensure children engage in effective learning by removing the specific barriers that keep them from the classroom. This involves implementing rights-based and play-based curricula that are culturally and linguistically relevant. By providing high-quality resources and trained teachers, we create an environment where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
