Our Inspirational Young Fundraisers Making A Difference

Our youngest fundraisers show us how it's done! Find out more about Edie, Alba, Adya, Finley and Jenson who've inspired us with their amazing support for Children on the Edge, raising vital money for our work.

EDIE FAULKNER’S GARAGE SALE SUCCESS

Eight-year-old Edie Faulker from Angmering was inspired to support Children on the Edge after hearing about children being forced to leave their homes in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. Edie wanted to raise money to help because she “wants all children to be safe and happy”.

Not only did Edie raise an incredible amount of money to support Children on the Edge, she also helped to spread the word about the work of the charity amongst her friends and family.

Every year, the village where Edie lives, holds a garage sale trail across the whole village. Many villagers set up stalls outside their homes and people are invited to follow the map and see what preloved treasures they can find. Edie decided that she wanted to get involved, and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to support Children on the Edge.

She said:

“First, I sorted all of my old toys, books, games and dress-ups. Then I made a large poster advertising all the things I was selling and where the money would go. The night before the sale I baked chocolate chip cookies, chocolate brownies, butterfly cupcakes and sausage rolls. Then on the morning of the sale we brought everything to the front of our house and displayed it on a table ready to sell.”

Edie’s stall was a huge success and she raised an amazing £140 on the day. But Edie didn’t stop there, she decided that she wanted to help spread the word and tell more people about the work of Children on the Edge. So she created a video talking about all of the ways that Children on the Edge supports refugee children around the world and showed it to her friends, family and to her Brownie group.

After all of Edie’s fantastic fundraising she was given her charities badge at Brownies, which she is very proud of.

We are so grateful to Edie for organising her garage sale stall. She put in a huge amount of effort baking treats and donating her toys and books to help support our work. We loved watching her video about our work and we were delighted to hear that she was awarded her Brownie Charity badge, it was certainly well deserved!

ALBA & ADYA CLIMB PEN-Y-FAN

Sisters Alba and Ayda completed a huge challenge at just five and six years old; climbing Pen-Y-Fan in South Wales and raising an incredible £640!

The sisters have grown up hearing about the work of Children on the Edge, as their mum, Leanne, is a passionate supporter, so when she asked the girls which charity they wanted to fundraise for there was no hesitation and they both shouted ‘Children on the Edge’ straight away.

On the day of the challenge, it was wet and very windy, but the girls were unperturbed and determined to complete their challenge. They pressed on, along with their mum and family friend Val, battling gusts of 28 miles per hour and climbing 3,136ft above sea level to complete their challenge!

When they reached the bottom of the mountain, Alba and Ayda celebrated with well-deserved hot chocolates with lots of marshmallows!

We think Alba and Ayda are superstars! They showed such determination to make a difference and help other children and their fundraising efforts will make a huge difference.

FINLEY & JENSEN’S 5KM RUN

Best friends Finley and Jenson decided together at school that they wanted to do something to raise money to support Children on the Edge and chose to take part in a 5km run. The boys completed their 5km challenge along Worthing seafront, with their friends and family cheering them on.

After completing their challenge, Finley and Jenson visited the Children on the Edge offices in Chichester to meet the team and tell them all about their challenge.

The pair were incredibly conscientious and we were blown away by their generosity and commitment to the cause.

We love supporting our young fundraisers and helping them achieve their charitable goals. Whether it’s schools, Brownies, Scouts or local football teams, if you or your child are part of any community groups, get in touch to find out how we can work together and make a difference.
