Glebelands School Students celebrate raising £10,000 with a visit to the COTE office

Students from Glebelands School visiting the Children on the Edge Office to celebrate their milestone fundraising achievements.

Students from Glebelands School in Cranleigh, Surrey, are celebrating a milestone fundraising achievement, raising over £10,500 to support Children on the Edge in providing education and protection for children living in some of the world’s toughest situations.

After choosing to partner with Children on the Edge in 2021, children at Glebelands secondary school have held a huge variety of different fundraising activities, including non-school uniform days, cake sales, raffles, baking competitions, concerts and special events.

Rachel Bentley OBE, Children on the Edge Co-Founder and CEO, said, “We would like to thank the whole Glebelands School community for their exceptional fundraising efforts over the past five years. It’s an incredible achievement. The students have demonstrated their school’s vision in action - Respect and Achieve - and their support is helping thousands of refugee children access life-changing education.”

Celebrating their Achievement

To celebrate their achievement, fundraiser Bryony Thompson attended a whole-school assembly to thank the students and teachers. She invited school council members to visit the Children on the Edge office in Chichester to find out more about the impact of their school’s fundraising.

When the day came in April, Bryony planned a full schedule of activities and interactive sessions, so students could learn more about the work they support. This included workshops on children’s rights, child protection, access to education and  self-expression. The children got stuck in designing posters, role-playing scenarios and enjoyed a creative Lego session to explore the concept of learning through play.

Students also had the opportunity to connect with members of the Child Rights Clubs in Uganda and compare and contrast how they make a difference in their communities.

Glebelands teacher Mr Pike, who accompanied the children, said, “We had a fantastic day at Children on the Edge HQ. The students had a real insight into the great work that Children on the Edge does and how the school’s fundraising supports it! Glebelands are really proud to be partnered with such an impactful charity.”
