Our Privacy Policy

Children on the Edge respect your right to privacy and ensure that your data is protected and used appropriately.

Children on the Edge work to ensure that any data that we have recorded from our donors, supporters and partners is both protected and used appropriately.

1. Personal Data Collection

What we collect and how:

You may give us your information via email, over the phone, or through our website forms—for example, when you make a donation, sign up for our newsletter, or apply to take part in a fundraising challenge.

These forms may ask for:

  • Your name and email address

  • Your address (if signing up for an event, so we can send you resources)

  • Your card details and address (if making a donation—processed securely via third-party platforms like Raisely, Stripe, Enthuse, PayPal, CAF, Sterling Lotteries)

We may occasionally request extra, optional information like how you heard about us or what inspired you to get involved, but this will be purely voluntary.

2. Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function properly and can also collect information about how you interact with the site, to improve your experience or deliver more relevant content. A cookie isn't a computer programme, it can’t carry a virus, install malware or read your files. It is primarily there to give you a more personalised experience online. We have a clear ‘pop up’ on the site to inform you of the use of cookies so you can opt out via your browser if you choose to. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, visit www.aboutcookies.org.

How we use cookies

Our website uses both first-party and third-party cookies to enhance your browsing experience and help us understand how visitors use our site. These cookies may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on the site.

We use cookies for the following purposes:

1. Analytics and Performance

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) via Google Tag Manager to collect anonymised data about how users interact with our website. Google Analytics is only accessed by one or two trusted members of staff. Our use of the service means that when you visit our website, it automatically collects some technical information about your session. This includes the Internet Protocol (IP) address that connects your device to the internet, the type of device you use, your browser, geographic area, whether you made a donation and from where you have arrived at our site. This information is completely anonymous (i.e. we can’t identify you as an individual) and it simply enables us to get a general idea about how the website is used and where improvements can be made.

We also use GA4 tracking on our donation forms, which are embedded using a third-party platform, Raisely, to understand how supporters interact with our donation experience.

We also occasionally use Hotjar to understand user experience and site interaction. Data collected is pseudonymised and never sold. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behaviour and their devices. For further details, please see Hotjars Privacy Policy.

2. Marketing and Advertising

We use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel via Google Tag Manager to help us measure the effectiveness of any Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns we may decide to run. This may track visits to our site and help us reach relevant audiences.

3. Email Marketing

We collect email addresses through embedded sign-up forms provided by Mailchimp. These forms may use cookies to ensure the forms work correctly and to avoid showing duplicate sign-up prompts to returning users.

4. Form Submissions

We use Tally to collect information from supporters who might want to apply for charity places at fundraising events, register their fundraising interest, or sign up to host a fundraising event. Tally forms which appear as pop ups on our site and may use cookies or similar technologies to ensure the forms function correctly, prevent duplicate submissions, and gather basic analytics about form interactions. Tally does not set advertising or tracking cookies.

For more information, please visit the Tally Privacy Policy.

Managing cookies

When you visit our site, you will be given the option to accept or decline non-essential cookies through our cookie banner. You can also manage or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings.

Please note that disabling cookies may impact the functionality of certain features on our website.

Third-party services

Some of the cookies on our site are set by third-party services we use. These services have their own privacy and cookie policies:

Security & Communication

All interactions and payments that happen on our website are secure. Our website has a certified Secure Socket Layers (SSL) certificate, which is the standard security technology for creating an encrypted link between a browser and a web server, making sure that data sent between the web server and browsers remain private and secure.

We won’t spam you or cold call you

Any personal details collected are used only to further our work with marginalised children. This could be in the following ways, depending on what you have signed up for:

  • Communicating with you about our work and how to support it

  • Getting your feedback on that communication

  • Processing your donations

  • Supporting you with your own fundraising

We don’t automatically send updates about our work to everyone who gives us their e-mail address. We only send to people who have specifically signed up to our newsletter, or people who give monthly to Children on the Edge.

We send e-mail updates around three to four times a month to donors who give regularly, and to those who have opted to receive our newsletter. Every e-mail we send you will have an unsubscribe link at the bottom where you can remove yourself from the list with just a few clicks. We currently use Mailchimp, who have very strict rules when it comes to ‘spamming’ and a comprehensive Privacy Policy of their own. Very occasionally we may contact you outside of these e-mails, if there is special news, or an emergency appeal.

Whenever you donate to us, your details will be entered into our secure database. We will not be using these details to bother you with extra information or request further support. We never use  information to cold call people. We only use supporter’s phone numbers to give support for fundraising events they have signed up for, or if we are working with them in some other capacity.

Since 2023, we have been supporting the development of the Herat Online School and their umbrella charity, Afghanistan Education Action. Those who have made a donation to this work and opted in to hear about the programme will receive email updates 3-4 times a year from Children on the Edge or the Herat Online School / Afghanistan Education Action.

We keep your information safe

We never sell or share your data with third parties for commercial use, and we do not pass it on to third parties to bother you for donations on our behalf.

Your donations are managed by payment provider services (Raisely, Paypal, Stripe, CAF bank) which employ secure technology systems. When you make a donation, your data is securely passed to our database (Salesforce) which also uses secure protection systems.

Any time you want to check or amend your personal data, just call the office on 01243 538530 and we’ll be happy to help.

This policy is effective from 1st May 2018 and was last updated on 25th April 2025. We may update it occasionally—please check back for changes.
