The Young Artists Behind Your Christmas Card

Children from two of our Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in Loco and Wandago took part in a vibrant, creative art session. They were encouraged to draw and colour the things they dream of receiving for Christmas, and the results are a beautiful, colourful window into their imaginations.

All our regular supporters will spot some incredible talent in the cards you receive through your letterbox! Our front cover was designed by five-year-old Isabella Ikata, described by her teacher Doreen as a social and school-loving student.

Inside, look out for the cheerful ‘Christmas bus’ created by six-year-old Kabiita Ian. Kabiita, a playful and energetic student, is known for his great relationships with peers and his enthusiastic participation in school activities, especially sport!

Providing space for creativity like this is a vital ingredient of quality education and essential for enabling children to thrive. It’s fun too! Throughout all our learning spaces, we try to ensure that children have the opportunity to express themselves regularly through art sessions like this as we know that they are key to developing their confidence and agency.

“The drawing session was full of fun and creativity. You could see every child trying to make the best one! They would ask for the different colours which they thought would bring out the best picture. Drawing is one of the activities children enjoy very much and they are always excited to be part of. Drawing and shading are very important for early years children because it helps them develop their fine motors, put their imagination on paper, develop their creativity and above all, it motivates them to keep coming to school.“

You’ll see this commitment to creativity across all of our education spaces, with every classroom a riot of colour, filled top to bottom with children’s artwork and decorations. From community murals to video newsletters like Moja Kids, we make sure that children are free to express themselves and have a say in the issues that matter to them.

We hope these special cards remind you of the impact your support has in encouraging every child to learn, play, and express their unique selves.
