Funds Raised by Players of People’s Postcode Lottery Support Early Years Education for Refugee Children in Uganda.

We are delighted to announce that our early years education programme for Congolese refugee children in Uganda will be benefiting from a £400,000 award in 2024, thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Congolese refugee children living in Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda are cut off from early years education at the most vital stage of their development. Children on the Edge are working alongside refugee communities in the settlement, helping over 5,000 young children access early childhood education through our award-winning cluster learning model.

Thanks to the support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, thousands of Congolese refugee children in Uganda will be able to access the education they need for the best start in life.

Rachel Bentley, Children on the Edge Co-Founder and CEO said:

"To create genuine impact for children living in volatile situations, we often seek innovative ways to solve challenges, like our award-winning Cluster Learning Model. Sometimes we need to be agile or even disruptive in order to bring change for the most marginalised children, so the courageous and flexible funding provided by Postcode Education Trust is a real catalyst in growing strength and sustainability for those who need it most".

Funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and awarded by Postcode Education Trust will help to:

  • Train 10 more teacher trainers, who in turn will train 300 more refugee teachers in the settlement, enabling us to provide early years education to thousands more children.

  • Support parents and community members to become invested in their children’s education, making it a top priority for the whole community.

  • Develop innovative new education resources and tools, such as our play-based assessment and our early years child protection book.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised over £1.3 billion for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

This is the fourth-year players of People’s Postcode Lottery have supported Children on the Edge, and the third year they are supporting our work in Kyaka II refugee settlement.

Eloise Armstrong, Fundraising Manager at Children on the Edge says:

“It’s so encouraging to see players supporting charities helping children in the toughest situations around the world. At Children on the Edge we can see first-hand just how much funds from players of People’s Postcode Lottery are helping provide the best start in life for thousands of refugee children.”
