The Echo Trust

ECHO is the registered charity created by Luminar Leisure Ltd. ECHO is now supported by both Luminar, Britain’s largest operator of late night venues, and The 3D Entertainment Group who have created an alliance for the benefit of children’s charities throughout the UK.
After the Asian earthquake and tsunami of 26 December 2004, ECHO responded by pledging its support to Children on the Edge and funding the Child and Community Centre in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
Their £100,000 donation, raised by staff and customers of Luminar Leisure as well as funds from The Echo Trust, allowed Children on the Edge to obtain match funding and establish the Centre.
More recently, staff from Luminar visited the Burmese-Thai border to see how Children on the Edge work to provide safe places for migrant children to receive an education and nutritional support. We are currently exploring further opportunities to bring change to this desperate situation together.
Chief executive officer for Luminar and chairman of Echo Trust, Stephen Thomas, commented: “We are pleased to lend our support to Children on the Edge, who have the same priorities as the Echo Trust - both charity’s rightly place the welfare of children at the heart of what they do, whether it’s children in the UK or the wider world. It’s about working together to give those children the best possible start in life.
Those sentiments were reiterated by Echo Trust manager, Maxine Smith, who added: “Visiting Thailand earlier this year enabled me to witness the deprivation that children suffer every day. Children on the Edge do an utterly fantastic job at providing the basics in life, such as an education and a nutritious meal. The Echo Trust supports UK children’s health charities and over the past few years has been able to donate over £500,000 to these causes."
