Young Fundraiser Competition

Children on the Edge launched a brand new competition this year for a young person to come up with a fundraising idea.  It was the idea that was important and how it was presented to us, actually doing the fundraising wasn't required.

This year Children on the Edge is 20-years-old and to mark this we wanted to do something that engaged local children in the work that we do – we wanted to extend the 'living locally thinking globally' concept beyond our offices, into the families living in the Chichester District area.  We love the idea of children doing the thinking about ideas to raise money to help other children.  This is one step on their way to become active citizens, thinking about the world in which they live, doing something kind.

There were no rules for the fundraising idea, no boundaries.  We wanted every young person who entered the competition to have free reign over his or her idea.  We wanted their imagination to flow.  However, one thing to bear in mind is that the idea should be about raising money for Children on the Edge.

The competition was officially launched in the Chichester Observer on 11 March 2010. There was a limit of one entry per child/young person. Closing date was Friday 25th June 2010.

Entries could have been in any format, again there were no restrictions, as long as the judging panel were able to understand the idea, then we would have accepted it (within reason of course, we don’t fancy the idea of someone parachuting onto our office roof!).

Every entry received was valued to see what each young person has come up with.  We appreciated the time and care taken with all ideas and treated each one with the consideration it deserved.  All entries were assessed by the Children on the Edge team, with final decisions made by a local high profile panel.
